Discovery Museum adds two scientists to its board of trustees

The Discovery Museum in Acton has added two new members to its board of directors, one specializing in engineering and the other in organic chemistry.

The most recent members of the board are Umair Zia and Vibha Oza.

Umair is the Director of Electrical Distribution Engineering for Eversource Energy. He holds a master’s degree in systems engineering, a graduate certificate in mechanical engineering and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, all from the University of Maryland, according to a museum statement. Umair lives with her family in Shrewsbury.

Oza has had a 20-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing primarily on oncology research and development. She holds a doctorate. in organic chemistry and a postdoctoral fellowship in medicinal chemistry. Vibha and her husband, Prakash, live in Acton.

“Vibha and Umair each bring skills and experience that will inform our work as we steer the museum through the challenges of the global pandemic,” said Harry Hollenberg, chairman of the board, in a statement. “Museum staff have shown great flexibility and creativity in developing new learning opportunities to support children and their families and teachers in these unprecedented times. With the support of Vibha and Umair, the board will seek to build on this momentum to expand the impact of the museum during and beyond the COVID crisis. “

The Discovery Museum is a hands-on science, nature and play museum through the museum and its natural outdoor play landscape accessible to Discovery Woods and its 550 square foot treehouse.
