CHAMBA (HIMACHAL PRADESH), 8th October: The Union Minister of Science and Technology and MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh today inaugurated the first of its kind science museum in the aspirational district of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh in the presence of the Chief Minister of State, Jairam Thakur.
By linking it to startups, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, the cutting-edge institution in this hilly region will inspire young children to discover their potential and use their innovative skills to find a source of income later in life.
The “DBT-NIPGR-Pandit Jaiwant Ram Upmanyu Science Museum” established by the National Plant Genome Research Institute, an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, at Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) , Chamba will help to instill the scientific temperament among the schoolchildren.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said Himachal being a Himalayan state with rich biodiversity is most suitable for promoting agri-tech start-ups and the Department of Biotechnology is ready to hold young innovators to dive in in the current start-up boom. in the country.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the geography and climatic conditions in Himalayan states like Himachal Pradesh favor the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and these can be developed into agro-tech and aromatic enterprises. The minister offered Chief Minister Jairam Thakur all his help to study and implement the CSIR-supported Aroma mission in Jammu and Kashmir, which can be replicated in a huge way in Himachal.
The Minister was pleased to see that Chamba was ranked second in health and nutrition in March 2019, ranked among the best districts in basic infrastructure in November 2020 and overall second in October 2021 in the country among the 117 districts surveyed across the country by NITI Aayog. He added that the concept of Aspirational District is based on objective parameters and is scientifically designed with an evaluation based on certain essential indices.
Dr Jitendra Singh told the rally that he aligned himself with the Prime Minister’s vision to ensure that science and technology reaches every nook and cranny of the country, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Indian government has taken the initiative to install 75 science museums in different ambitious districts. from the country. He said the purpose of these science museums is not only to inform about India’s scientific journey and achievements over the past 75 years of independent India, but also to instill a scientific temperament to schoolchildren.
Dr. Jitendra Singh once again stressed that this initiative will lead to scientific, rational and progressive thinking among students so that they will be encouraged to pursue science as a career and spread the scientific vision in the society, in addition to give shape to critical thinking in the form of lucrative start-ups.
Dr. Jitendra Singh was informed that Chamba District has recorded progress in various indicators and NITI Aayog has approved various projects for Chamba District as an incentive based on better performance in the ranking of the delta. Chamba became the 100th district of Har Ghar Jal last year. Jal Shakti Ministry said: Chamba is the fifth ambitious district to become Har Ghar Jal. The Minister also expressed keen interest in the “Chalo Chamba” campaign launched in 2021 with the aim of highlighting the immense tourist potential of the district, showcasing unexplored destinations, as well as making it a provider of tourism. jobs.
In his address, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur profusely thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr. Jitendra Singh for granting the science museum to the ambitious Chamba district and said it would go a long way in inculcating the spirit and the approach to the students of this district and also the adjoining areas.
