‘Hisses and Kisses’: Name a cockroach at the Science Museum of Western Virginia after a certain person

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Are you looking for a one-time Valentine’s Day purchase that lets you have fun with the ones you love – or someone who makes your skin crawl – and supports a good cause?

The Science Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke is bringing back an old Valentine’s Day favorite – the ‘Hiss and Kisses’ fundraiser!

“Because sometimes a whistle is better than a kiss,” according to the museum.

For just $5, not only can you rename a Madagascar hissing cockroach after someone special, but you’ll also receive a personalized e-card to pass on or keep for your own enjoyment.

You can either purchase the naming opportunity online or visit the Science Museum of Western Virginia in Market Square and experience the cockroach colony in person.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to the museum’s colony of Madagascar hissing cockroaches, as well as other animals housed in the living collections department, according to the museum.

“Whether you love them or hate them, everyone has someone they would name a cockroach,” the Science Museum of Western Virginia wrote on Facebook.
