Model Railroad Show pulling in the science museum


the Science Museum of Virginia’s annual tradition returns the weekend after Thanksgiving. Model train club exhibits will fill the Dewey Gottwald Center for the 44th Model Train Show presented by Dominion Energy.

The three-day event features eight different train exhibits with various scale locomotives moving through intricate landscapes and miniature cities. Created by HO, O, and N scale model train enthusiasts from across Virginia, patrons will enjoy seeing the wide variety of classic and unique scenes.

While at the Museum During the Model Railroad Show weekend, you can enjoy a feature in The Dome. Two new films are showing: “Birth of Planet Earth” at noon and 3 pm, and “Antarctica” at 2 pm. The giant screen film “Superpower Dogs” airs at 11:00 am

Guests can also help with a collaborative railroad scene and do a conductor hat in The Forge, and Museum educators will offer daily demonstrations at 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. The “Hot Wheels ™: Race to Win ™” exhibits will all be open to visitors.

Customers can go out to view the Science Museumvintage train cars, take a railless train ride on the Teddy Bear Express between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and watch a blacksmith forge custom metal pieces from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Model Railroad Show takes place from Friday November 26 to Sunday November 28.

the Science Museum is open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm everyday for the general public. the Science Museum offers members exclusive early access hours from 8:30 am to 9:30 am each day.

To manage the guest flow, the Science Museum Timed entry to the Model Railroad Show will follow with 75 tickets available in each 15-minute time slot. Participants, including members, must purchase tickets in advance on the Science Museumto make sure they get the time slot they want. Tickets on site will be sold in person based on availability. Guests can visit the Science Museum any time before or after exploring model trains during normal business hours.

Model Railroad Show activities are free with Science Museum admission. Members and children two and under are admitted free. the Science Museum offers discounts for military, teachers and EBT cardholders. Eligible guests should call 804.864.1400 for details on booking these tickets with the discount code.

The features of The Dome cost $ 5. Places are limited to 250 people and are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The gift shop will be open each day of the show, but concessions will be closed.
