Nicolaysen Art Museum to Host Lectures on Wild West Exhibit
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The Nicolaysen Art Museum will host several talks associated with its current Old West exhibit. The first conference will take place on Thursday, March 31 and will be called “Martians Visit The West”. This talk will be given by museum director Andy Couch and will focus on the connection that certain pieces have with the genre of extraterrestrial painting.
One of the main focus of this talk will be artist WR Lee who has created pieces that depict images of the old west but he also has pieces that show extraterrestrial life forms and we are even used in some of the writings of science fiction.
“So WR Lee is in this exhibit that we have right now and he’s done some really interesting work for HG Wells. So we’re going to talk about some of the extraterrestrials and some of the landscapes he’s done of the Moon and outer space and that’s a really interesting connection to this artist and some of the artifacts that are on display right now” , said Mr. Andy. Couch.
On April 14, the museum will also welcome guest speaker Byron Price to give a talk on the artist Edward Borein who is featured in the exhibition. Byron Price is a western historian who was the director of the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. He will also be signing books when he comes to speak.
The “Martians Visit the West” conference will be free to the public and will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.
